About the Business
Edwin Long Car Sales was established by local man Edwin Long. After gaining experience in the motor trade, he decided to start his own business towards the end of 1969. From humble beginnings, by repairing and selling cars, the business rapidly expanded to an ever increasing customer base. As numerous people asked him to source cars for them, many makes and models were supplied. As the business expanded, different manufacturers made contact with an interest to selling their products.
However, if the business was to go in this direction, new premises would need to be acquired. In 1974 the business was moved to the present prominent location at 9-11 Portaferry Road. During the last 38 years on these premises, there have been many changes, including various franchises, but a large customer base has remained, and many loyal customers who bought cars in the South Street premises, still buy their cars at Portaferry Road.
